Zimbabwe is amongst the Top 10 nations in the list of best cricket playing countries. Sadly, with just one decision by ICC(International Cricket Council), Zimbabwe Cricket has been suspended. ICC took this decision on Thursday. In this article, we will tell you the reason why such happened.
The reason ICC gave for suspension of Zimbabwe cricket is that cricket in Zimbabwe is not free from ‘government interference’. As per ICC, cricket must be kept free from political interference. ICC is pretty strict on its rules and now it’s unlikely we will ever see Zimbabwe playing International Cricket again.
ICC has also decided to cut down on the funding of Zimbabwe. This decision has now led to 100’s of people getting out of a job. Many people have raised their voice against the decision. One of them is Sikandar Raza, a senior player of Zimbabwe.
He says “How one decision has made a team strangers. How one decision has made so many people unemployed. How one decision affects so many families. How one decision has ended so many careers. Certainly not how I wanted to say goodbye to International Cricket.”
Brendan Taylor, another player of Zimbabwe came in support of Raza criticizing ICC by putting so many people out of jobs.
In International, Zimbabwe hasn’t had many big achievements except for one time when they beat India in an ODI match. Zimbabwe was put at 10th in Test, 11th in ODI and 12th in T20 by ICC.
There is going to be another ICC meeting in October re-evaluating this decision. However, till that time, Zimbabwe Cricket remains banned.
Even though Zimbabwe has not been able to provide with many entertaining matches, they are still a team and should be able to play cricket. What do you think about the ICC’s decision? Comment down below.
