Since the launch of K20 Series by Xiaomi on 17th of July, Xiaomi has been facing a lot of heat from angry fans. This is because people had initially thought the device would be under 20K while the pricing of the device is Rs 21,999 for its base variant. As a reply to all the fans, Manu Kumar Jain has written an open letter to fans on Redmi K20 overprice controversy.
Manu Kumar’s Opinion
In the letter we see Manu Kumar trying to justify the decision of pricing the phone as they have. He says “On Redmi K20, people are not looking at the fact that this is Snapdragon 730. Its everything which the K20 Pro has with SD730.”
“Snapdragon 730 is not a cheap chipset-its fairly expensive if you can go and ask Qualcomm,” Jain continued. “Its the third-fastest chipset by Qualcomm after Snapdragon 845 and 855. If I am not wrong, there was one device announced on 730G, but I don’t know if its been commercially launched or not in the entire world- that would probably make K20 the first phone to be commercially launched with this processor.”
He continues “When you buy a chip early on, something like this, its a lot more costly. If you go to buy 730 two years down the line, it would, of course, be much cheaper. Right now people are comparing it with other Snapdragon 700 series phones, where the price has depreciated over the past 15-18 months, and then if you do a comparison, it’s not a fair comparison.”
He clearly hints at the digs Madhav Seth has been taking on Redmi K20 since the launch. People have been commenting now that Realme X is a better choice than Redmi K20. However, in a comparison, Redmi K20 totally outdoes Realme X with Antutu scores above 2,00,000.
Whatever Xiaomi’s opinion might be, they were the first one to understand Indians do not go after expensive products. Still, they give excuses like Glass Body, 3rd fastest processor, taxes and much more. Let’s hope Xiaomi doesn’t go on to make such mistakes with their next set of smartphones.
Redmi K20 overprice controversy is the hottest controversy on Youtube right now. They say that K20 Pro is aggressively priced while K20 lacks that aggressiveness.
