Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 1 Debuts: Worth the 20 months wait?

The Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 1 named “Winterfell” has finally debuted and Hotstar CEO would be jumping with joy seeing so many new subscriptions to the App. Well, it has been a 20 months wait for a new episode of Game of Thrones and it is the first time that the series has made the fans wait so long for an episode. As it was a season starter it didn’t feature much of any war and action but the episode brings in a ton of reunions and a special Spoiler which we will be telling you, so if you have not watched the episode till now, do so before watching.

Review

The beginning of the episode is quite classy with Daenerys and Jon Snow returning to the North. The way Sansa welcomes queen Daenerys gives us and also to the queen the idea that Sansa doesn’t like her. This might go on to be a problem in further episodes. We have the reunion of Jon Snow and Bran Stark which is quite neutral.

The best and most affection filled part which will go on to be the best scenes is the Reunion of Arya and Jon Snow. They hug and show each other their swords. The development of a relationship between Arya and Gendry makes us realize that Arya might not be the same faceless girl she was when she left the faceless man’s corner. If she and Gendry survive the upcoming war, we might even see both of them married and together.

We saw Theon saving his sister and admitting her to be his queen. He is then allowed by his sister to go to Winterfell to fight alongside Jon Snow. The most highlight-filled two scenes which we are now going to discuss were the best moments of the first episode.

Samwell Tarly, who has now arrived at Winterfell informs Jon Snow that he is Aegon Targaryen, the true heir to the Iron Throne. Jon’s reaction to it does not look good. It seems like he has accepted Daenerys to be his queen. He does not at all wishes to be a king.

The second and somewhat horrifying scene is that Tormund whom we find alive after his fall from the wall in the last episode of Season 7 sees Lord Umber who has been murdered by the Night King and has been hanged on the wall. While Tormund and his pal Ben were talking, Lord Umber suddenly spurts into a White-Walker and emits a blood-curdling scream which will definitely raise the chills in you and give you a reminder of the former Game of Thrones.

They agree that it is a sign from the Night King. While many things happened, in the end, we got to see Jaime Lannister meeting face to face with Brandon Stark, who is now a cripple because of what he did in Season 1. Overall, the episode is a good build-up for the further upcoming ones but it does not satisfy our hunger to see the action of Jon Snow against the night King and whether or not Bran is the Night king or not. Well, there are now only 6 episodes remaining.

The length of the actual episode was just 53 minutes. 10 minutes were dedicated to titles, Episode 2 precap and the making of the episode. Thus, as a fan, I feel cheated for not being given the exact above hour content we wanted to see.
