After WHO has announced Pubg as a disorder and bad for health Vellore Institute of Technology banned the playing of Pubg mobile by its students in its campus area. Since Pokemon Go, Pubg Mobile has been the hottest game of the nation with more than 100 million people playing the game worldwide and that too within less than in an year.
Pubg Mobile has been banned in this engineering college
Well, the gamers at the VIT were certainly in for a shock. They had earlier been told that Pubg is not allowed in the campus area as it disrupts other children’s concentration and causes disturbance too.
They were not so pleased with the ban. Alcohol ban was needed, barring loud music and parties was also fine but the college interrupting in their choice of entertainment too has made them certainly displeased.
It’s still unclear what exactly triggered the ban. The notice mentions hostel students being disturbed by raucous PUBG players, “disturbing the atmosphere”, and supposedly gambling. Either way, based on our chats with a few students who preferred to remain anonymous, looks like the PUBG ban has had little effect.
Also, in its new edition of International classification of diseases, ICD-11, WHO has declared gaming disorder as a mental health condition. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has now included ‘gaming disorder’ as a mental health condition in its new edition of International Classification of Diseases, ICD-11. This means ‘gaming addiction’ will now be considered as a unique mental health condition, which is likened to substance abuse.
WHO defined gaming disorder as a pattern of gaming behaviour (digital-gaming or video-gaming) characterised by impaired control over gaming, increasing priority given to gaming over other activities to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other interests and daily activities, and continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences.
Well, this certainly is true. Pubg is certainly a pretty big example for this kind of gamind disorder. It is really addicting because you won’t be able to win every match and that will make you play it more and more.
People should certainly start realising that these are just games and playing more and more of these games is not good for health.
