India Vs New Zealand 5th ODI was a match that certainly was saved by our middle order batsmen. To start with, Dhoni came back in the team which was a good thing. India was again to bat first and Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma got out without scoring even 10 runs. In came the 19 year old Shubhman Gill who couldn’t handle the pressure and got out at 7 runs.
Surprisingly, Dhoni also was not able to score runs too. Then it was Ambati Rayudu and Vijay Shankar who took it upon themselves to get India out from 18-4 to above 100 runs. Vijay Shankar got run out at 45 runs while Ambati Rayudu went on to score 90 runs. Kedar Jadhav played a good 34 runs off 45 deliveries while it was the savior Pandya who with his 22 balls 45 runs took India to a respective total of 252 runs.
From the New Zealand bowling side, Boult took 3 wickets while Henry took 4. Neesham got 1 and there were 2 run outs.
New Zealand came down to bat and were two down at 38 runs thanks to Mohammad Shami who didn’t let the openers Munro and Collins settle in. Williamson played a difficult 39 runs and he looked seriously out of form. Jimmy Neesham and Latham together scored a partnership but then Neesham was run out by Dhoni at a score of 44 while Latham scored 37.
New Zealand were bowled out at 217 runs with 5 overs to spare. Shami was announced to be the man of the series. He also had won 2 man of the match awards this series which really strengthens his position in the World Cup Indian team. India won the 5 match ODI series 4-1 and now there are 3 T-20’s which India will play against New Zealand starting 5th of February.
We hope India wins the T-20 like they did the ODI series.
