Genuine Attempt Failed”: Movie Review Of Khandani Shafakhana

This movie review of Khandani Shafakhana is not easy as this flick tried to be a lot of things and failed to be perfect in any sense. In some way, it is about a young woman who tries to deal with complexes of her life with courage.

A young woman named ‘Baby Bedi’ portrayed by Sonakshi Sinha gets the responsibility of her family after the demise of her father. After this, she comes to know that her uncle runs a sex clinic which she inherits. This happens totally out of the blue. Selling that clinic would be a solution to Baby’s financial problems but she is told that the clinic has to run at least for six before she sells it.

The clinic is located in Hoshiyarpur, Punjab where the word sex is associated with stigma. The idea of the movie was promising but debutante director Shipli Dasgupta was unable to bring it to life, unfortunately. The naturalistic textures are undoubtedly present in the flick but the crackling acting performances are nowhere to be found. Thanks to ‘Badshah’, who made his acting debut with this flick. He pumped the energy which was the main need in the bland scenes of this movie.

The main problem with this film was that most of the time is uselessly spend to introduce Baby’s tough circumstances. Khanadani Shafakhana tried to give a message to people about being open to the topic of sex, but the way the scenes are shot, have made it a slog. There are a few scenes which have some heartfelt emotions. These are the moments which Baby spent with her mother. But, these scenes in Khandani Shafakhana are few and far between. Anu Kapoor played a lawyer who just throws lines in English. Clear;y, he is the only character in this flick who seemed to have some fun.
