Manikarnika is a movie released last week. It portrays Kangana Ranaut as the main lead character and has been really well received by the audiences. The movie has earned 42.55 crores over its first weekend. The critics reviews and the positive word-of-mouth has led to the success of the film.
Manikarnika: What is it about?
The film has been co-directed by Kangana Ranaut and Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi. It is an Indian epic biographical period film based on the life ogf the Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi. The movie Manikarnika tells it all about the story of Rani Laxmibai and what was her role in resistance to the british Raj. The movie takes us to the 1857, India.
As per many people’s reviews Kangana’s acting is blowing people’s mind. The war sequences in the 2nd half are really good and will keep you at the edge of your seats. Just like how Kangana is in real life i.e. always empowering women and is also a pretty strong feminist with open views, the movie portrays the same. The basic theme of Manikarnika is Women Empowerment and the movie successfully portrays it.
The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta, in her review, wrote, ” As promised, Manikarnika does tick all the nationalistic boxes. It is getting a perfectly timed Republic day release. And there are plenty of eye-roll moments as it chases the red-faced Brits, and raises the flag. It may have been Jhansi, but it is clearly a prelude to the ‘Tiranga’. But what keeps us with the film is Rani Ranaut, who in her best moments, owns her part, the single track- narrative, and the screen.”
The period drama earned 8.75 crores on the first day. On the second day, it earned 18.10 crores while on the third day it earned Rs 15.70 crores. Although the movie faces competition from rhe Nawazuddin Siddqui starrer Thackerjay, the movie is seeing an upward trend and will continue to have it over the current week.
