In the time when there’s a dire need for India to rewrite it’s history books for generations to come. Here’s Bollywood on duty with a Visual Masterpiece, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. There are so many warrior stories waiting to be told that are literally unsung, one of them was the Story of a Lion Warrior, Tanaji Malusare. Bollywood is doing good by bringing back the glory that lost with time with these movies. This time it’s Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior.

After the Treaty of Purandar which makes Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj(Sharad Kelkar) surrender 23 forts to Aurangzeb(Luke Kenny) which included a fort of strategic importance to the Marathas, The Kondhana(now Sinhgad) Fort. Four years down the line, Aurangzeb hands The Kondhana Fort to Udaybhan(Saif Ali Khan). Udaybhan along with a huge army and “Naagin”(a massive cannon) takes over the fort to ensure Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj cannot reclaim the surrendered fort from Aurangzeb. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, however, when plans to reclaim the fort doesn’t consider Tanhaji Malusare(Ajay Devgn) as his go-to man for the campaign because of the marriage of latter’s son. Tanhaji, when finds out about the campaign, urges Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to give him the opportunity to reclaim what once belonged to the Marathas. Impregnable to others, as the Kondhana Fort was said to be, Tanhaji Malusare managed to get to the inroads of the Fort and then happens the fierce battle between Tanhaji Malusare and Udaybhan.

The Film is a Visual Masterpiece, watching it in 3D was a Grand Experience. Leaving aside Ajay Devgn’s entry scene, the first half of the film is not in tone with the Movie being an Action Drama War Movie, but the Second half subdues this feeling. While the first half is consumed with making the base of the film, the second half completely amps up things leaving you high in the Climax. The part where they capture the Fort is amazing, the war scene packs amazing Action Sequences, paired with Grand Visual Effects and the 3D is just at par with many big Hollywood movies. Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior being an Action Period Drama doesn’t fail to bring tears to your eyes at times.

Ajay Devgn lived up to the Character of the Braveheart Maratha Warrior Tanhaji Malusare. Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior can be said to have played with all the explosiveness Ajay Devgn packs inside him. You can see a Braveheart Warrior in Ajay Devgn right from the beginning to the end of the Movie. Although a Fierce Warrior Ajay plays the characters of a loving husband, a father, a friend and an emotional son Taneya(as Tanhaji Malusare is lovingly called) all with the same finesse.

Kajol as Tanhaji Malusare’s wife defines the character with her charm and makes her screen time worthwhile.

The Cruel Sly Udaybhan, portrayed by Saif Ali Khan is also brilliantly done. His character traits of brutality and cruelty are very well brought out by Saif. The character is at times witty with his intense Dark Sense of Humour. One of Saif’s best performance.

Sharad Kelkar does complete justice to his character of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The dialogues are very well written boosting the power of the movie every time. The soundtrack matches the tone of the movie all the time.

I give Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior 4.5 Stars out of 5.
