It’s been more than 20 years since Shaan’s Tanha Dil was released. It will be complete injustice if we will refer this ditty as just a ‘song’ as it has transcended the boundaries of being just a track.

It would not be wrong to say that Tanha Dil has now become an emotion! Every time the song plays the words reminisce us of our college days. Yes ‘those college days’ where most hearts were broken, first romance blossomed and tough lessons of life are learned. Beings with tears in our eyes and heavy hearts with emotions are what Tanha Dil transforms us whenever even the slight mention of the ditty hits our ears.
The lyrics of this track stamp the emotional chord of the heart in the most intense manner. Each one of us gets through a phase when this song feels that it is tailor-made for our situation. Shaan’s image is so strong as a college guy that still people recognize him as that lean guy from the track. Being born in India, there are some things that each of us has in common when it comes to college life. No matter from which cultural background you belong to and Tanha Dil covers all of it. One instance which is my personal favourite is when Shaan comes to terms with the fact that one of his favourite teachers is no more. Such instances are deeply grief-stricken but no one can deny the fact that they are inevitable.
