Well, our country might have gone into the 4th gear in terms of network usage after Jio internet arrived but one thing that we lack is the speed. There is no hiding the fact that sometimes India’s 4G speed downfalls so much that we can’t even use facebook app.
Still there is no relief to the buffering problem. The average 4G LTE speed in India for the past one year is 6.1 Mbps(average), which is really low in comparison to the global average speed of 17 Mbps. In terms of 4G speed, India is a really lazy country.
Big Telecom companies in India are developing the 5G technology while India’s 4G speed is plummeting downwards. As per Britain’s Speed tester opensignal , the downloading speed in India in comparison with Sri Lanka(13.95 Mbps), Pakistan (13.56 Mbps) and Myanmar (15.56 Mbps) is really low.
If we take a look at the developed countries America has an average download speed of 16.31 Mbps while Britain has 23.11 Mbps and to top it all Japan has the average downloading speed of 25.39 Mbps.
America’s data speed tester Okla has ranked India at 109 out of 124 countries in terms of overall mobile internet speed. As per Ookla the average downloading speed in India is 9.12 Mbps whereas the global average is 23.54 Mbps.
Opensignal’s analyst Peter Boyland commented that due to many lakhs people getting data connection per month has reduced India’s 4G speed.
But things are changing ever so slightly with the advent of Jio. Yes, I contradict my above statement but the Jio internet with economical advantage also helps us to get high-speed internet. At certain times a 1Gb movie gets downloaded in less than 5 minutes.
Google and other Internet companies have tackled the problem by tweaking their products for the country’s slow Internet speeds and spotty connections. Google has introduced numerous offline features, such as letting users download YouTube videos to watch later and use Google Maps with turn-by-turn voice navigation without the Internet. It is also modifying web pages, Chrome and its search results to reach users who may not have an Internet connection.
Facebook campaigned for its Free Basics platform that offered free access to the social networking app and a limited number of websites for news, health and information before it was banned by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India in February. It is now planning to start a cheap Wi-Fi service using drones to subsidise Internet costs in the country. Facebook is also piloting “Express Wi-Fi” service in India, where it will enable local entrepreneurs to launch cheap Wi-Fi networks.
We really hope that like our population the internet speed also goes up in the coming years.
