Metro man Sreedharan has written a letter to P.M. Modi regarding Aravind Kejriwal’s proposal of getting the Delhi Metro free for women. In this article, we will tell you what is the Metro man Sreedharan opinion on the topic.
Around 15 days back, Aravind Kejriwal announced free ride in Delhi metro and buses for women. In response to Kejriwal’s proposal, the Metro man Sreedharan has reportedly written a letter to P.M. Modi. The letter urges P.M. Modi to not to agree on Kejriwal’s proposal. Instead, he says that if the Delhi government is so keen on getting metro free for women, then the government themselves should but them tickets for free.
As per Aravind Kejriwal, the decision was made so that women could have safe travel experience and access modes of transport they were not able to access earlier due to higher charges. As per him, the women who can easily afford the tickets should purchase them so that others who cannot benefit.
Sreedharan in his letter to P.M. Modi wrote:
“One shareholder cannot take a unilateral decision to give concession to one section of the community and push Delhi Metro into inefficiency and bankruptcy.
E. Sreedharan is one of the main people behind the construction of Delhi Metro in 2002. He stepped down from the managing director position of Delhi Metro in 2011. He said that the Delhi Government’s decision has led him to take such a decision as to write a letter to P.M. Modi about refusing Kejriwal’s offer.
Sreedharan asserts that this decision could lead to upto a financial burden of 700-800 crores on DMRC. To finance it, the males would have to purchase tickets at a much greater rate and this could lead to the end of Delhi Metro.
