(1)Costs
The project is going to be 465 Km long and the estimated costs of the project are about Rs83000 crores.
The highest road point of the Rail line would be 5,360 meter above the mean sea level, making it the world’s highest Rail line, comparable only to China’s Qinghai-Tibet Railway Line, which stands at a height of 2000 meter.
There will be a total of 30 stations along the line.
(2) Lots of Tunnels, Bridges and more
The project will have 74 tunnels, 124 major bridges and 396 minor bridges. That is a lot of bridges. Keylong Station is going to be built inside a tunnel at a height of 3000 metres.
To give you an idea, the estimated length of just the tunnels is going to be 244Kms.
(3) Current Status
The route will connect important stops between Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh to Leh, including Sundernagar, Mandi, Manali, Keylong, Koksar and Karu among other places.
The highly anticipated Rail project is expected to reduce time taken to reach Leh from Delhi by half. The final survey location is said to be completed in the next 30 months.
Well, the people who had to wait 40 hours to reach Leh from Delhi will certainly be happy to reach the tourist location in less than a day. Who knows a time may come when trains become so fast that they can reach any location within an hour. Wouldn’t that be interesting?
