Just like the men’s cricket, women’s cricket is getting a lot of boost. India faced New Zealnd in the first ICC Women’s Championship match. It was an easy clutch by India. They took the victory by 9 wickets.
ICC Women’s Championship against New Zealand
It all started when New Zealand batted first and were bowled out for just 192 runs. E. Bisht and P. yadav took 3 wickets each while D Sharma took 2 and Shikha Pandey took a single wicket. The bowlers had a really great hand in the victory not allowing the New Zealand batswomen to score freely and limiting them to just 192 runs.
In reply when India came down to bat they reached the total of 193 runs with the loss of only 1 wicket. We saw a 190 runs record partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Rodrigues. Rodrigues scored 94 runs of just 82 deliveries while Mandhana scored 104 out of 105 deliveries. Her innings comprised of 9 fours and 3 sixes. Her companion Rodrigues scored a better than runnerball 94 runs and that is a really great achievement. Just like the men’s team the women’s also is looking to break New Zealand’s spirit in both men’s and women’s Odi matches.
Mandhana, the 2018 ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, started the year the way she left the last, and her 104-ball 105, comprising nine fours and three sixes, ensured the home side never had a peep.
It was, in all, a fine show of dominance from the visitors – and the perfect start under their new coach WV Raman. New Zealand needed early wickets to have any hope of defending their total, but Mandhana and Rodrigues both settled down quite quickly.
Well, it was the first out of 3 ODI’s and India have clutched a victory in the 1st one. Let’s see if they are able to clutch it too in the remaining two matches or not! What are your views about the match and who do you think is better- India’s Women’s ODI team or Men’s ODI team?
