Ambati Rayudu, an Indian batsman and the IPL star player has decided to retire from all forms of cricket. The shocking news comes after Rayudu got ignored from the CWC19 World Cup Team even after injuries to Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar. Ambati Rayudu, now 33 years of age came to realize that this world cup might be his only chance because he might not be fit to play till CWC2023.
The sad thing is that Rayudu had a really great batting average above 40 in ODI’s. He has played more than 50 ODi’s and one can understand the anger he must be feeling upon getting ignored in CWC19.
After he was ignored in the 15 man squad, he wrote a letter to Hyderabad Cricket Association. He wrote: “Respected sir, I would like to bring to your notice that I have come to a decision to step away from the sport from all forms and levels of the game.”
The retirement includes IPL too. In 55 ODI’s Rayudu scored 1694 runs with 3 centuries and 10 half-centuries. In the sic-T20s he played he scored 42 runs. He never got a chance to represent India in Test Cricket.
Last year Rayudu retired from his first-class career to focus on ODI’s and T20s only to get ignored by selectors even after constant performance. He played his last ODI against Australia in Ranchi this year. He got his position in Indian Cricket team after a successful IPL this year.
Ambati Rayudu began his ODI career in 2013 against Zimbabwe. Mayank Agarwal, who made his Test debut this year played really well but ODI is a completely different format. Considering Rayudu’s performance as well as Mayank Agarwal’s inexperience, do you think the selectors should have gone with him instead of Mayank? Comment down below.
