Why is the Tughlaqabad Fort is known as haunted place?

Almost everyone loves a good ghost story. It brings you the chills and adrenaline rush which excites you and sometimes makes you really scared. Well, in this article, we will be telling you the story of the Tughlaqabad Fort and why is it known as a haunted place.

Story of Tughlaqabad Fort

In South Delhi, among stretches of greenery and silent roads. you will find a ruined Fort alongside the road, somewhat crumbling yet still a massive masterpiece. It is known by the name Tughlaqabad Fort, built by Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq in 1321. He was the first ruler of Delhi’s Tughlaq Dynasty.

Coming onto the story of the fort, legend has it that Tughlaq wanted a powerful fortress capable of standing a Mongol assault. Thus, he ordered all the laborers in Delhi assigned on building the fort. This drew the attention of Sufi Saint, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya who found the work on his Baoli interrupted.

In anger, the Sufi Saint cursed the royal fort saying, “May the Fort remains unoccupied, or else may herdsmen live here.” This curse is what has led to the haunting in the Tughlaqabad Fort. True to the curse of Hazrat Nizamuddin, the fort stands to be a haunted place which people are afraid to visit.

The curse soon took the life of the Sultan Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq when in 1324, a Shamiana( tent used for parties) fell on him and ultimately crushing him of life. His tomb lies near the fort, an elegant building in red sandstone & white marble, bearing the customary calligraphic inscriptions on its walls have withstood the test of time.

After knowing its story, don’t you think that the Sultan should have been fair to the Sufi Sultan which would have prevented the curse on his Fort. Putting the haunted story aside, the Tughlaqabad Fort is a marvelous place for bikers. The lush jungle provides beautiful scenery and you would feel a part of nature. Just be careful and don’t move too near to the fort as people have definitely reported citing the ghost of Sultan Tughlaq wandering nearby the Fort.
