How I Met Your Mother is a series that is not highly recommended. It looks like a bad attempt at a rip off of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. at the worst and a poorly executed comedy that lost track of its intent at the best.

How I Met Your Mother is something that is hard not to rip off because it has you hooked due to the successful creation of a mystery it creates over the fact as to who is the mother of the architect Ted Mosby’s children. However, at the same time, it takes nine painful seasons to reveal that who she is and she does not even make an appearance till (spoiler alert) the end of eight seasons. It is like a drug that takes an annoyingly long amount of time to bring in the kick and then the kick was not even worth the wait.
The popularity of the series can only be explained by the one thing the creators did right and that was to successfully hook the people over the mystery of the mother. That and the popularisation of the “bro code”. The show has, however, been hailed as more of a remembrance of the young days and follies and fun of Ted Mosby and his friends. That all is very fine but the title is misleading and the fact that he is retelling some very questionable exploits of his and his friends to his teenage children (over the course of nine years!!!) is quite frankly annoying.
What seals the hatred for How I Met Your Mother for most people is the final season. (Spoiler Alert!). An entire season that revolves around the wedding of Robin and Barney is irritating enough without the epitome of bad writing but the fact that it was undone in a matter of two minutes of the last episode just so that Ted could get validation from his children to pursue their “Aunt Robin” is something maddening. That scene seals the fact that we have wasted precious time that we are never getting back again.
That is what How I Met Your Mother is, with its bad direction, horrific writing and mediocre acting; it is a waste of precious time.
