This piece of cinema directed by Soumik Sen has an interesting subject and the first half of the movie Why Cheat India is particularly interesting. Emraan Hashmi has portrayed a role of Rakesh Singh AKA Rocky, who let the smarter students sit in place of wealthy students (who are of course not good at studies) and help them to secure a seat in engineering and medical colleges. For this, he charges hefty amount and helps these smart but poor students to get money.
The Movie ‘Why Cheat India’

In the first half, Rocky Singh in the movie Why Cheat India is portrayed more like a messiah who helps brilliant but poor students who are desperately in need of money. Also, he is a savior of those kids, whose parents are desperate to get their children in renowned medical and engineering colleges. By the time we reach the second half, the flick becomes boring and hard for the viewers to watch. Yes, the movie is filled with a lot of emotions and old school stuff which is all about the pressure of studies. All this would not at all have been a problem if it was carried out properly on-screen.

The movie Why Cheat India had potential as it has the subject highlighting how parents force their own children to seek out for dangerous plans just to get them admitted in big and reputed colleges. But sadly, it did not work. The movie could have brilliantly highlighted the horrible realities of our education system but this did not happen. In fact, the plot becomes so haphazard by the end that cine-buffs are definitely going to be perplexed. Emraan has done a fantastic job but this movie did not give him the chance to come out freely with his impeccable acting chops. Unnecessary love songs have further weekened the screenplay of the film. This is a flick which is average overall but still has some claptrap repertoires. You can give one chance.
