Contrary to the traditional belief that more the time spent on smartphones and PC’s harms your health, research suggests that Social Media is less harmful to teenagers. In this article, we will tell you whether or not Social Media is less harmful to teenagers and even adults.
How Social Media is less harmful

Teenagers of 21 century like to spend a great part of their day using smartphones. It has become like a limb of our body. We can’t live without it even for a day. They like to spend their time chatting with friends and scrolling through their social media feeds like facebook and especially Instagram.
What does the research say?
The research was undertaken in which 2000 teenagers of age 13-15 years to find out whether or not online time is harming the mental health of adolescents. The results were rather surprising.
The analysis suggested no linkage of digital technology usage and worsening of mental health. Instead, the research suggested that teenagers who spent more time online found themselves better than adolescents who spent less time online.
According to Samir Parikh, a consultant psychiatrist at Fortis Mental health, the daily life of a teenager should be well balanced. Too much or too less of something can lead to problems. Children need to realize the importance of creating a balance between their activities.
As per him, “Social Media can be used positively to express views, choices and bring positivity. At the same time, children should be empowered with the skills to deal with social media effectively.”
Thus, even a qualified professional thinks that social media is not a waste of time. Instead, it can create a positive impact on kids if they use it wisely. However, he also suggested that too much time spent on social media will create a negative impact on kids. A report suggests that kids spend 9 hours a day on such activities which is not good. A total of 2-3 hours is more than enough.
