Netflix to launch affordable subscription plan in India: Might cost only 250Rs

To improve its subscription rates in India, Netflix might soon come up with an affordable plan costing less than $5. In the past year, we have seen several movies and TV Series specifically made for Indian Audience. Some of these like Sacred Games has gone viral throughout the world. In this article, we will tell about when the plan might launch and what features will the users get.

Netflix themselves confirmed that they would be rolling out a low costing subscription plan for Indian Audiences. This will be done to boost its revenue and subscriber growth in India. The new plan will provide users 1 mobile screen to watch on in SD(Standard Definition) quality. Users will not get multiple screens in this plan.

Recently it came in news that Netflix has been behind their targets in terms of subscribers. They gained 2.7 million new subscribers in the quarter ending June while their estimated target was 5 million. This was because of the increasing subscription rates in other countries.

The less than $5 plan which roughly translates to 250-300 Rs will roll out within the 3rd quarter of 2019 as confirmed by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings. In India, Netflix face competition from Hotstar which have an annual subscription rate of Rs 999 and Amazon Prime which also have an annual subscription rate of Rs 999.

Currently, Netflix offers three subscription plans in India: Rs 500( Standard Definition and Streaming on one device), Rs 650 (High Definition and Streaming on two devices) and Rs 800 ( Ultra HD streaming on 4 devices simultaneously). The upcoming plan will be the number 4th.
