The movie Love Sonia is so true in its craft that it is tough watching. This is the kind of a movie which tells you the sagas which one never wants to hear but cannot be unaware of as well. Debutant director Tabrez Noorani has put his heart and soul into the movie.
This movie is about Sex trafficking but the brutality it has shown is not a cliche at any point in the film. This movie Love Sonia is about two sisters. The father of the sisters loses his cool totally and sells one of his daughters due to the financial crisis. The girl who is left behind begs her father to be sent to Mumbai as well because she wants to save her sister.
Naive and wide-eyed, this role played by Mrinal Thakur for the search of her sister then underlines the gore truth about human trafficking that happens in Mumbai and which is cruel beyond imagination. In search of her sister the girl from small village land to LA.
She is robbed of her innocence, body, emotions and each and everything that one could imagine. Talking about the other characters, Richa Chaddha is here playing the role of a senior prostitute who teaches young girls about how to carry trade of sex and body.
Terrific Freida Pinto is also here who portrays the part of Rashmi as the one who believes she is the star of the brothel. She is so wicked and barbaric in her ways when she deals with the new girl that you will actually hate her to the extent you can.
Manoj Bajpayee plays a pimp Faizal, whom you dread to even meet. He is a character so strong and toxic that it will give you goosebumps everytime he appears on the celluloid. In short, every character in the movie Love Sonia is a master of their own crafts.
The exasperation, pain and the torture that the girl Mrinal goes will make your vision and imagination for Mumbai as a place where innocence is sold for sex and where screams are ignored behind the currency notes, no matter how colorful you envisioned this city of Mumbai before you step in theatre.
