JNU fined Rs. 20,000 for making pakoras (fritters) inside the university campus. Manish Kumar Meena is an M.Phil student of Center for Indian Languages at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Manish Kumar Meena has been advised to change his hostel within then days along with four other students. They made pakoras inside university campus to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Pakora comments. Students are not happy with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement. They sat on the roadside and started making pakoras (fritters). The matter about making pakora was started when university officials ordered that he has to submit his paper before July 21. Manish Kumar Meena also said, “University sent a notice to pay Rs. 20,000 and also shift from his hostel on July 13″. Manish Kumar Meena does not have money to submit to university.
“Prime Minister of our country is telling people to make pakoras for business was a mockery. It annoyed me, said Manish Kumar Meena so I protested against Prime Minister’s statement by making pakoras. The imposition of fine shows JNU’s culture of dissent is collapsing,” said Meena, who belongs from Rajasthan. “In the order issued by the chief proctor, there is no mention of any hostel where I have to shift. I have to complete my papers for final submission. This process of paying fine will take my time and I will not be able to complete my work,” Meena added. He is going to take legal help for a relief in fine imposition. Manish Kumar Meena said JNU fined Rs. 20,000 for making pakoras inside the university campus.
The order of JNU states that in the proctorial enquiry, Manish Kumar Meena has been found to be involved in blocking the road near Sabarmati bus stand on February 5. A similar order was issued on February 9, in which it was written that Meena was found cooking vegetables and blocking the road. Meena said, “I accept the fact that I made pakoras. JNU is not mentioning it clearly that pakoras were made by me because of their right-wing approach. They do not want to upset Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” He said he has every right to protest and has not damaged any property for which fine is necessary. He also alleged all these moves are deliberate to create problems for students so that they cannot complete their research and studies. JNU fined Rs. 20,000 for making pakoras inside the campus. Fine would affect their research completion.
Manish Kumar Meena and other students are alleging university to affect their research but the university is not affecting their research. JNU is the place where quality education and researches are conducted. It is one of the top university in India and the world. Making pakora in the university campus is not the proper way to protest. JNU is not protesting site. JNU fined Rs. 20,000 for making pakoras inside university campus, said by Manish Kumar Meena but the university has another reason to fine.
