Discussions have already commenced on the special coaches for the highest railway line. It will run at an elevation of 5,630 meters above sea level. Before manufacturing the coaches for the Bilaspur-Manali-Leh Rail Line, the Indian Railways will be studying the specifications of the coaches used in the Qinghai-Tibet rail line in China. The Qinghai-Tibet rail line in China is at an elevation of 2,000 meters above sea level.
The chief engineer of the project, Desh Ratan said that the coaches have to be pressurized. The trains running on the line will not be sporting sleeper class. He added that all the coaches will have heaters installed in them. That is because the temperature frequently falls below freezing point.
