Vikas Sathaye, an Indian engineer hailing from Mumbai was part of the technical team that was dignifies with the scientific and engineering award at the Oscars 2018, Scientific and Technical Awards recently. The event took place at the Beverly Hills in which all the four members of the team: Vikas Sathaye, Brad Hurndell, John Coyl and Shane Buckham were awarded for the designing, conceptualizing, implementation and engineering of the Shotover K1 Camera System.

While addressing the Media, Sathaye said that in 2009 he joined a company called Shotover Camera Systems in Queenstown and worked on the aerial frame. He also said that mesmerizing landscape and natural beauty of Queenstown motivated him to establish this company there as the place attracts a lot of film producers and directors.

Also he described his invention by saying,“The camera mount gets attached to the base of a helicopter, which carries the camera and lens. Its primary function is to eliminate any vibration from reaching the camera and thus getting steady footage. The other function for the camera mount is to move the camera head in the desired direction as required by the camera operator, who sits inside the helicopter and uses a joystick to control the camera head movement,”

About Vikas Sathaye:

Born in 1967, Sathaye grew up in Mumbai.  After completing his school education, he did a diploma in instrumentation from VPM’s polytechnic, Thane. He has also done a BE in electronics from VIT Pune, and an M.Tech in instrumentation from IISc Bangalore.

He also taught at Pune Cummins College of Engineering for Women for seven years, during which he was sent to Italy for a project with Fiat for three months. During this time he developed a keen interest to enter the field of embedded software technology.
