Hima Das the Indian sprinter created history on Thursday as she won the Gold medal in the 400 meters final at the IAAF world under -20 athletics championship in Tampere, Finland. Hima Das is becoming the first Indian athlete to won Gold medal in the track event.

The 18- years- old Hima Das the Indian sprinter clocked 51.46 seconds to claim the top position in the championship. Andreas Miklos of Romania came second with a timing of 52.07 seconds to claim silver while the United States America’s Taylor Manson took bronze after clocking 52.28 seconds in the championship. Hima Das had also led the overall time charts in the semifinals with a timing of 52.10 seconds on Wednesday. Das also finished the first rounds heats on Tuesday clocking 52.25 seconds.

The poor Assam girl, Hima Das the Indian sprinter clocked an Indian Under-20 record of 51.32 seconds to finish sixth in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in April. Since, then, she has gone onto improving her timings. Hima Das lowered the India Under-20 record in 400 meters to 51.13 seconds while winning in the recently conducted National Inter-State Championship in Guwahati, Assam.

Hima Das the Indian sprinter is a daughter of a rice farmer. She won all the athletics events. She was a district champion. She took almost two years to reach the state- level competition. In early 2016, Hima Das won the 100 meters’ race at the state championships and later at year made to final of junior athletics championship in Coimbatore without any training. She was stunning all.

Hima Das the Indian sprinter is a resident of Dhing village in Nagaon district, Assam. She becomes the first sprinter of Indian athletics after winning IAAF World Under 20 Athletics Championship 2018. Hima das clinched the top position in the women’s 400 meters’ final race on the third day of competition.
