Earth is greener than it was two decades ago and this is because of 2 countries namely India and China. As much as 82% of Green Cover seen in India is because of intensive crop cultivation. You might be wondering and actually thinking that trees are reducing day by day on our planet earth.

That is not the truth because Earth is greener than it was 2 decades ago. More trees have been planted and more are being continuously planted than are being cut. This is a really good news for the environmentalists who are worrying about the harmful effects of Global Warming on our planet.

As per a study by NASA, it is India and China who are leading the way with their ambitious tree plantation projects. On 5 July, 2017, India planted as many as 66 million trees in one day, along the Narmada in the state of Madhya Pradesh creating a new world record. Before that 8,00,000 volunteers from the state from Uttar Pradesh planted 50.4 million trees in just 24 hours.

The greening phenomenon was first detected using satellite data in the mid- 1990s, and the 20-year old data comparison is now possible because of NASA instrumentation orbiting the Earth on two satellites. It is called the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer or MODIS and NASA says that its high resolution data provides very accurate information.

This has allowed researchers to calculate the changes in spread of the green cover and vegetation, down to the level of 500 meters or about 1600 feet on the ground.

The Tree Plantation Projects were a part of Government’s strategy to tackle Climate control. Modi has not just been sitting around travelling places. Along with beating Pakistan in their home he has also made sure that our India and planet have a good amount of Trees remaining.

Still, some researchers say that this increase in cover can’t compensate with the loss that is happening in green cover in countries such as Brazil and Indonesia. these countries should try to also have Tree plantation campaigns to raise more trees because more trees means less Global Warming.
