DU will suffer from vacant seats

DU will suffer from vacant seats in PhD, M.Phil courses in its various departments in this session. DU’s PhD, M.Phil courses’ entrance result is surprisingly low in this year. Students who appeared in PhD, the M.Phil entrance examination for this upcoming session, most of the students are failed. Due to this bad result in PhD and M.Phil entrance examination, seats will not be filled this year. African studies department and History department have very less qualifying candidates for taking admissions. Apart from these departments, various departments of Delhi University are facing this problem of less qualifying students.

University Grant Commission (UGC) had set the 50% minimum criteria for qualifying entrance examination for PhD, M.Phil courses. In Delhi University few candidates qualified this minimum score of 50% in PhD, M.Phil entrance examination.  This minimum criterion of 50% is the same for all categories students whether belong, General, OBC, SC/ST classes. This minimum criterion is the main reason that DU will suffer from vacant seats in PhD, M.Phil courses in its various departments.

Various departments of Delhi University- Department of Indian Languages, Department of Adult Education, Department of Forensic Science, Department of Physics, Department of History, Department of Philosophy and other departments are open for enrolling students. East Asian Studies department said, no student is qualified for enrolling in the department of East Asian Studies. Modern Indian language department also said, only one student is qualified for enrolling in PhD. Department of History said, we have 30 seats for PhD in our department but only three candidates are eligible for enrolling our PhD program. Department of English said, no student of SC/ST category is not qualified for enrolling in M.Phil program in this year. Lots of departments have now vacant seats of PhD, M.Phil due to ineligible candidates, so DU will suffer from vacant seats in PhD, M.Phil courses in its various departments.

PhD, M.Phil programs in any university in India are a research-based program. For the development of research in Indian universities, the University Grant Commission and the Modi government are continuously working. Both want to raise the standard of research in the Indian education sector as foreign universities.  DU is following UGC’s guideline for minimum criteria for PhD, M.Phil entrance. It is the reason DU will suffer from vacant seats in PhD, M.Phil courses in its various departments.
