Technology is that thing which is helping us humans in many ways. We can replace employees in a factory by machines, handmade items with machine made items and much more but the real question is that can Technology replace teachers in a classroom. In this blog we are going to discuss just that and the reason why technology can’t replace teachers in the classroom.

Can Technology replace teachers?

Teachers teach their students many things: Studies, manners, knowledge about random things and also guide us in choosing us our careers to some extent. In India, qualified teachers are lacking. In government schools, the English subject teacher doesn’t know easy spellings like that of “Ball”. Thus there arises a question as to if technology should replace teachers. Technology can indeed be a significant enabler for achieving quality education with the objectives of access, quality and equity.

However, Technology should not replace teachers. Instead, it should serve to empower them. There is a need to look beyond the phrase, Information and Communication Technology and use the term technology more holistically. For this to happen, substantial investment needs to be made across infrastructure, teacher education, and content and curriculum. It is necessary for technology to be incorporated into curriculum delivery and teacher capacity building.

According to a cost- benefit analysis conducted by India Consensus, a partnership between Tata Trusts and the Copenhagen Consensus Center, an investment of Rs 1,333 per student per year, would create a multiplier effect of generating benefits to society worth Rs 74 for every rupee spent.

Thus, instead of replacing teachers for technology the best thing the government can do is invest in education and that will surely help a great deal in increasing the quality of education in India and there will be no need to ask the question of whether Technology should replace teachers in a classroom.
