The first season of True Detective, an American Anthology Crime Drama Television series premiered in 2014. It was a hit since release and also came to be known as the top detective series overall. It featured Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Potts and Tory Kittles as its main characters. It contains 8 episodes in which the two detectives Rust and Marty who investigated the murder of prostitute Dora Lange in 1995 were interrogated.
17 years later they must revisit the investigation, along with several other unsolved crimes. The show has been praised for showing themes such as philosophical pessimism, Masculinity and Christianity. Watching true Detective somewhat arises the inner detective of your mind.
You start running your mind as to who could have done the crime and also the personal lives of Marty and Rust are really great to watch. The sensual portrayal by Alexandria Dadadrio was especially a great highlight of the series. She acts as Marty’s girlfriend with whom he is having an affair hiding form his wife.
The series was nominated for Prime time Emmy Award and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Mini-series or Television Film and has won several other honors for writing, cinematography, direction and acting.
Although, the series doesn’t portray a hint of humor, the writers know how to engage the audience as the seriousness of the series engulfs everyone in it right from the first episode.
The best thing about the series is that the show certainly gets under our skin and we start to imagine these characters as real. The acting by Matthew Mcconaughey and Woody Harrelson just seems so real and intense that you just won’t let the series go without fully watching it.
Its not a typical Sherlock Holmes type detective series but totally else something. It is something that can only be created once.
