This year on 26th of January, India will be celebrating its 70th Republic Day. Like every Republic Day, the 70th Republic Day will be celebrated with lots of pomp, fervour and zeal. The President’s cavalry consisting of a 200-strong cavalry unit will escort the President to the stage of the Republic Day Parade.
This year’s anniversary of India as a republic will be a big deal as it will be the 70th Republic Day. The grand celebrations will be attended by not only leaders from across the length and breadth of the nation but from across the world as well.
As a country of 1.25 billion gears up to celebrate the 70th Republic Day, here is everything that you need to know about the grand occasion:
- Every year the grand parade of Republic Day witnesses the presence of a world leader. This year the chief guest is going to be the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa.
- The parades also witness tableaus from various states and departments of the Government. The most anticipated tableau this year is going to that of Punjab. The theme of this highly anticipated tableau is going to be the Jalianwala Bagh massacre of 1919.
- The 70th Republic Day parade will also have multifarious folk dances from the land of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Arunachal Pradesh.
- For the first time in history, four Indian National Army (INA) veterans will take part in the parade. All of these four veterans are more than ninety years of age. According to a statement by Major General Rajpal Punia, “These veterans are aged between 90-100 years. INA soldiers had links with the British Indian Army, so they also have links with our legacy,”
The 70th Republic Day parade “will be a dazzling display of Nari Shakti”. The Assam Rifles contingent will be leading it. The bike stunts which had been a force of men will see a lone woman rider joining there ranks. The contingents of the Navy, Army Services Corps and a unit of Corps of Signals will all be led by our wonderful women officers.
