After ABCD and ABCD 2 here’s yet another Dance Movie Directed by Remo D’Souza. Street Dancer 3D is an all Dazzles Dance Drama. The story is more or less the same as the other movies of the franchise. The story mostly revolves around the two leads and arch-rivals because of their geographical identity. Sahej(Varun Dhawan) an Indian and Inayat(Shraddha Kapoor) a Pakistani. The two are mostly fighting with each other in the first half of the movie, be it cricket or dance. Both have their Dance Groups named Street Dancers of Sahej and Rule Breakers of Inayat. Both groups look to compete against each other until the end of the first half when Prabhu Deva introduces them to the life of immigrants living there. The second half is what happens to achieve their combined goal.
Street Dancer 3D is obviously a Dance Movie but on the story part, the movie itself forgets that its a Movie not a Dance Reality Show with stories of Contestants here and there. The Movie seriously lacks a soul. Writer/Director Remo D’Souza fails to present a story but succeeds at par when it comes to Dance Choreography. The Dance Numbers are Delight to Eyes, Everything Dazzles when THEY Dance.
Varun Dhawan, while shining in the Character of a Dancer, is average when it comes to acting. Varun has seemingly improved his moves since ABCD2 and is a Joy to watch while dancing. Shraddha Kapoor impresses with her screen presence while acting and dancing. Although Shraddha is not at par with the professional dancers dancing around her in a number of scenes, the hard work is evident. When it comes to dancing there’s nothing that beats Prabhu Deva’s Muqabla in the dance flick. That single dance number makes the price for the movie well paid. Nora Fatehi is a delight to the eyes in every scene and she danced better than most dancers around.
Coming to the technical part the Movie is named Street Dancer 3D but the 3D is flawed in almost every frame. The 3D is so bad, it distracts you many times while watching, especially when there is fur or hairs present in the shot. The Director or VFX team also doesn’t know when and where to use 3D. If you get a better deal on a 2D ticket get that to enjoy it more. The movie also doesn’t give much importance to details like the tattoo on Varun’s chest is seen flipped in a scene.
The Music of the Movie is amazing considering the Beats and thumps required for a dance drama. You can definitely feel the Garmi when Nora Fatehi Dances on the amazing dance number. Mainu Pind Jaana Hai tries and fails to put a soul into the story. Dua Karo is the “Gharwapsi” Song for Varun. Sachin-Jigar’s background score is the element that made the film what it came out to be.
All said Street Dancer 3D, although, being a Dance Movie focuses way too much on Dance and very little on the storyline. If you’d like to watch Exquisite Dance Sequences on the Big Screen, then this movie is for you. This is not an all-inclusive entertainer.
Because the movie isn’t what it pretends to be(a 3D Movie) I’ll cut half star and give this Movie 2.5 Stars.
