Gomatinagar police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of minor boys who allegedly broke into the Vishal Khand residence of a high court judge on June 4 and decamped with bathroom and kitchen fittings. Six boys, aged between 13 and 16, have been taken into custody from Maqdoompur.
Police who were tipped off by a scrap dealer has recovered some of the 60 stolen taps and other items, besides tools used in the break-in. A team in plain clothes rounded up the boys posing as customers willing to buy the stolen fittings. A part of the booty was recovered from a house in the area.
Gomtinagar circle officer Avnishwar Chandra Srivastava said the boy gang carried handy tools that allowed them to pick locks easily and gain entry. ” They were trained to carry out the burglary in 2-3 minutes. In case the owner or a security guard spotted them, they claimed they were looking for a ball. The boys were always dressed well enough to avoid suspicion,” he said.
Interrogation has also revealed that the minors had stolen bikes in the past.” All the boys belong to lower middle-class families. They have been sent to a shelter and will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board,” the circle officer added.
