Firstly, we would like to acknowledge you that in 1917 Pulitzer Prize was established and has been awarded for the achievements in magazine, newspaper, online journalism, musical composition, and literature. And today the three photojournalists belonging from Jammu and Kashmir have been awarded with Pulitzer Prize 2020 in feature photography.
Mukhtar Khan, Yasin Dhar and Channi Anand are the holders of the top honours who have been working with news agency, Associated Press (AP).
On 5th of May, announcement of the awards was made. Their coverage in the Jammu and Kashmir region during government imposed restrictions as a move to end Jammu & Kashmir’s special status was recognized through this prestigious awards.
How this announcement was made?
Walking on the path of social distancing and worldwide lockdown, the Board administrator of Pulitzer Prize, Dana Canedy made this auspicious announcement from her loving room through a live stream on YouTube instead of a ceremony at New York’s Columbia University.
You must also acknowledge that through the official Twitter handle of Pulitzer Prize, winners were announced. The tweet mentioned the names of the winners and also congratulated them for their special victory.
According the winners, it had not been an easy road. Among the three, Mukhtar Khan and Yasin Dhar are the residents of Kashmir while Channi Anand is from Jammu.

According to Yasin Dhar, through images he is not just shooting the story of the people from the region, but it is his own story as well. He felt honoured to be recognised as a winner of Pulitzer Prize. While for Channi Anand winning of this prize was unbelievable.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir and the leader of the National Conference, Omar Abdullah congratulated the three photojournalists for their winning of Pulitzer Prize 2020 through their official Twitter handles.
