In the quarterfinals of the Women’s Boxing welterweight event at Tokyo 2020, Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain defeated Chinese Taipei’s CHEN Nien-Chin. Lovina won the match 4-1 on aggregate in the third round, as well, with a split decision.

They have now advanced to the semi-finals and are assured of at least a bronze medal.

To advance to the final, Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain will compete against top-seeded Turkish boxer Busenaz Surmeneli in the semi-finals.

The match of Lovlina against the current world champion Busenaz will take place on Wednesday, August 4 at 11 a.m. IST.

“After winning the quarter-final, I’m looking forward to the semi-final. In the semi-final, I will absolutely aim to perform better than this. I want to help India win the gold medal.” Lovlina said.

In a one-sided contest Deepika Kumari, the world’s number one archer lost in straight sets against Korean top seed An San in the quarterfinals here on Friday. Deepika loses 0-6 to San in less than 6 minutes.

A San glided through to the semi-finals despite not being at her best on Friday, and Deepika Kumari was never in the competition. It was painful for Deepika, who appeared dissatisfied with her performance after losing in straight sets.
