Corona Virus is spreading more and more, unfortunately, and this is making people panic all over the country. All over the nation, schools and colleges are being shut and public gatherings are avoided to the utmost possible extent. These steps are propelled by the government despite bearing the heavy financial loss.
Corona Virus Scare: Film and Television Shootings Halt!
To avoid the spread of the deadly Corona Virus, the film and entertainment industry has taken a huge step in this realm. The Federation Of Western Indie Cine Employees (FWICE) and Indian Film and Directors’ Association (IFTDA) has decided to cease the shoot of movies, web series and television temporarily. This major step is taken to prevent the further spread of pandemic (Corona) among 5 Lakh workers who are involved in this industry. This will be continued from 15th o 31st March 2020.
The meeting regarding this was attended by the bigwigs of the entertainment industry. Some of which included representatives of Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPPA), Western Indian Film Producers’ Association (WIFPA) and Indian Film and TV Producers’ Council (IFTPC). Ashoka Pandit, president of IFTA told reporters that ‘after 31st March 2020, the call will be taken on this’. This means that the halt of the shootings may continue. Even after the heavy loss that will fall upon the entertainment industry, Pandit emphasized that the health of the workers is paramount and so the priority will be given to it. He also added that even the dormant movie sets will be cleaned and sanitized. All these steps are taken to keep the spread of the Corona Virus at bay.
Most of the movies have postponed their releases. However, Angrezi Medium, went ahead with its release this Friday (13th of March 2020). As the theatres are shut, this may hugely affect the box-office collections but no official news regarding this is out yet. Masks have been distributed to the workers and the production houses are taking care of the daily wages of the people involved in film-making. Bollywood actors like Shahid Kapoor and Akshay Kumar have proactively suspended the movie shoots of their films in progress to fight against Corona Virus.
