The Ramayan is something that we all grew up with. Even if we did not read it, we do know the epic via our grandparents, uncles, aunts, and parents. However, we bring to you two less known facts from Ramayan that we can bet you have never heard before. For the first of the two less known facts from Ramayan, remember when Seeta asks Ram to fetch the golden deer and the ensuing events result in her abduction by Ravan.

Legend has it that it was not the true Seeta that Ravan abducted as he would not have been able to even touch her on the account of her being so pious and “tejaswi”. The abduction of Seeta was a necessary event that would lead to his demise so in order to make that happen, a night before she was abducted, Seeta surrendered herself to fire and stayed in the abode of Agni Dev and in her place a fake Seeta emerged and this was the one that Ravan abducted.

Now remember the incident when Seeta gave an Agni Pareeksha (test by fire), it was only a trick to receive the original Seeta back who had during all this time been a guest of the Fire God “Agni Dev” and had spent her time in prayer and penance. Another one of the less known facts from Ramayan is that Lakshman and Meghnath were related. YES, they were!!!

Meghnath was the son of Ravan and a great warrior who almost killed Lakshman on the battlefield and was ultimately killed by Lakshman while he was trying to perform a rite that would have made him invincible. The relation between these two was, however, more than just enemies fighting a war.

Meghnath’s wife Sulochana was the daughter of Shesh Nag (the king of Serpents) and as we know that Lakshman was the avatar of Shesh Nag. So Meghnath was like Lakshman’s son-in-law.
