Jail Bharo Agitation to begin today: Maratha Kranti Morcha

Jail Bharo Agitation

The Maratha Kranti Morcha will begin a jail bharo agitation on Wednesday. This agitation will begin in Mumbai and will be undertaken across the state.

This agitation will go on from August 1 to August 9. A team of 14 MKM members will stage demonstrations at the Azad Maidan. Their demands shall be announced here.

The organizers have assured that there will be no band or violence on the streets. Following MKM’s “muk morcha” or silent march, the local Maratha unit will push forward the jail bharo andolan. No established leaders from mainstream parties will be allowed onstage.

MKM, Mumbai Unit coordinator, Kedar Suryavanshi, said, “We have decided to start the jail bharo agitation from Mumbai on August 1. Gradually, every district will organise similar agitation in the next one week, which will take place across the state until August 9.” He also added,“Our foremost demand is immediate withdrawal all the criminal cases against our community. While the CM had announced that all criminal cases against the Marathas who participated in the earlier agitation be withdrawn, it has not been implemented on the ground.”

Their demands also include an apology or resignations from Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil. This is due to them hurting the sentiments of the community. A demand of Rs. 50 lakh for the “martyred” youth and Rs. 10 lakh for the injured has also been demanded. Amol Jadhavrao, an MKM leader also demanded cases to be registered against Fadnavis and Patil for the violence during the bandh.

MKM leaders have said that they do not believe in suicide as a crutch for their cause. Instead, organised demonstrations shall ensure that reservation is granted and they are alive to avail the benefits.

Should the reservation be given to the agitators? Is the peaceful demeanour of the Jail Bharo Agitation really the true face of the MKM, or is it just a facade?
