An Aeromexico plane crash occurred on Tuesday with about 100 passengers on board. The Aeromexico-operated Embraer passenger jet crashed just after takeoff in Mexico’s state of Durango. Authorities have reported zero fatalities.
Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte, Durango airport operator, blamed bad weather conditions for the Aeromexico plane crash. The jet had 97 passengers and 4 crew members on board. It came down at 4 p.m. local time. This was tweeted by Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, Minister for Communications and Transportations for Mexico. Witnesses stated that after take-off, they heard a “bang”. Then, without warning, the Aeromexico plane plummeted to the earth.
The body of the plane was severely damaged. Columns of smoke were rising into the sky. Alejandro Cardoza is the state’s civil protection agency spokesman. He stated that the Aeromexico plane made an emergency landing 10 km away from the airport. It has been reported that about 85 people were injured in the Aeromexico plane crash. The fire from the accident was soon put out. None of the victims suffered burn injuries. Most people were able to escape the plane on foot.
Flight number 2431 was an Embraer 190 and was bound for Mexico City when it crashed. Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto wrote on Twitter that he had instructed the ministries of defence, civil protection and transportation to respond to the crash.
There was a swift response by rescue workers.
