M.S Dhoni has not made a return to international cricket since India’s loss against New Zealand in World Cup 2019. To be exact, Dhoni has not played a match since 9th July 2019. Since then, Dhoni had taken the post of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute regiment of the territorial Army. While cricket fans across the world still hope for Dhoni’s return, BCCI and selectors might not be too eagerly relying on Dhoni. MS Dhoni’s International Career in Danger?
Each cricketer playing for team India is bound by a contract from BCCI. There are four grades in which a player is featured. These are Grade A+, A, B, and C. The grades decide the player’s yearly salary. Last year, M.S. Dhoni featured in Grade A( Rs 5 crores). However, this year, BCCI has not listed M.S. Dhoni across any grade.
This contract list will be valid from October 2019 till September 2020. It clearly indicates that M.S. Dhoni might not return to the team until later this year. With increasing age and no competitive practice, Dhoni’s chances of returning to the Indian International Cricket team look really bad.
India’s Head Coach, Ravi Shastri had recently said that Dhoni might end his career soon but could compete for a spot in the T20 World Cup. However, chief selector MSK Prasad has made it clear that M.S. Dhoni will be selected strictly on the basis of his performance.
MS Dhoni himself has not made anything clear about his future plans but it might seem that he will captain Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL. His selection in the Indian Cricket Team will be on the basis of his performance in IPL.
