The Witcher is a very popular and astoundingly epic game as well as book series. Now that it has gained a lot of traction, Netflix has decided to retell the stories written by Andrzej Sapkowski, the Polish author. The trailer is out now. You can view it here:
First off, the trailer looks fabulous. It has molded together medieval and fantasy settings. The tone seems to be pretty gritty and extreme. The CG in the trailer looks dazzling as well. It is clear that a lot of money has been poured into this project. The art direction and the cinematography are on point. They expertly capture the essence of the tale. The performances look promising as well. We see some real dedication from the actors towards their roles.
The Witcher is a tale about Geralt of Rivia, White Wolf, the Butcher of Blaviken. It is a tale of a lone wolf who refuses company ending up gaining support from the most unexpected of places. And the trailer clearly delivers that message.
This series will mostly focus on the events before the games for it looks like Yennefer, Geralt’s main love interest is still struggling to recognize her own powers. Other iconic characters like Triss and Ciri are also introduced. We see a younger Ciri on screen, who are looking for Geralt. So, she hasn’t yet come under Geralt’s tutelage.
The story that they are trying to approach here is kind of like an origin story, not of the Witcher himself but of the important events and people in his life.
