‘When they see us’ is the latest Netflix production. It was released on the 31st of May and since then has been dominating the whole platform. In this article, we will tell you what is special in Ava DuVernay’s representation of wrongful arrest of five teens in New York after the rape of a central park jogger 20 years ago.

When they see us is an American Drama Web Television mini-series based on true events mentioned above. It explores the lives of five male suspects who were prosecuted on the charge of rape and assault of a white woman in 1989. Well, they were wrongly convicted and in 2002 when they had completely served their time, their innocence came forward. The five men went on to charge suit against the city for wrongful conviction and were paid full settlement but the most important thing which the state couldn’t provide them with are the lost years of life.
The story seems pretty common. People getting wrongly convicted and sentenced to prison for a crime they didn’t commit. As per Netflix, the 4 part mini-series has been the most-watched series since its release. It has reportedly beaten 13 Reasons Why, Riverdale and Stranger Things. However, they didn’t tell us exactly what the views for the series are. Now we will discuss what makes ‘When they see us’ so special.
What makes it special?
In today’s world, we will see those movies and T.V. Series which are based on real-life cases are much more seen that fiction stories. This is because people are able to connect much better with real stories rather than those fictional ones. Also, add to the fact the wonderful direction by Av DuVerney and a great showcase of acting skills by the cast members especially Jharrel Jerome and Michael K. Williams.
