There is no denying the fact that The Hobbit is one of the best adventure action movie series created ever. If you didn’t know already The Hobbit is an adaptation of the famous novel of the same name by Sir J.R.R Tolkien. After seeing The Hobbit you might have gotten an itch of watching a movie just like it to quench your thirst for another movie like it. (1) The Lords of the Rings
The Lords of the Rings is another fantastic action-adventure series created in the year 2001-03. These are also based on a novel by J.R.R Tolkien and actually is a sequel to The Lords of the Rings. It follows the journey of Bilbo Baggin’s nephew Frodo who has to do anything to keep the ring with himself and finally destroy it upon reaching the destination but there are many dark forces that will prevent him to reach his destination and the biggest of them all is himself. If you liked The Hobbit you will actually like it more.
(2) Alice in Wonderland
Alice in Wonderland is a classic masterpiece movie. It is an American Fantasy Adventure film directed by Tim Burton. I include this movie not because it has a lot of immense action which it doesn’t but because it has a classical appearance to it just like you get while watching The Hobbit. It is inspired by Lewis Carrol’s novels Alice’s adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
the film tells the story of a nineteen-year-old Alice Kingsleigh, who is told that she can restore the White Queen to her throne, with the help of the Mad Hatter. She is the only one who can slay the Jabberwock, a dragon-like creature that is controlled by the Red Queen and terrorizes Underland’s inhabitants.
It was one of the highest-grossing movies at the box office in 2010.
(3) Sleepy Hollow
The Sleepy Hollow is an American Gothic supernatural movie released in the year 1999. It is an adaptation of the short story The legend of sleepy Hollow written in the year 1820 by Washington Irving. It is a mind-blowing movie and had immense action and deaths of many. The plot follows police constable Ichabod Crane (Depp) sent from New York City to investigate a series of murders in the village of Sleepy Hollow by a mysterious Headless Horsemen. It won the academy award for best art direction. The movie has many ancient elements like Witches, headless horsemen which make it seem like you are in the Hobbit world.
(4) In the name of the King
In the name of the King is yet another action-adventure fantasy movie directed by Uwe Boll inspired by the Dungeon Seige video games. If you want to watch a movie in the same fantasy environment as the Hobbit this would be the one. While it lacks in the story department there is immense action to contribute to it.
(5) The Avatar
Avatar is an epic science fiction action movie that is somewhat the only movie that can match the creation and scale of The Hobbit. It is the highest-grossing movie ever and has been reviewed positively by critics. The film is set in the mid-22nd century, when humans are colonizing Pandora, a lush habitable moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system, in order to mine the mineral unobtanium room-temperature superconductor. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na’- vi a humanoid species indigenous to Pandora.
The film brilliant captivates its audiences with its huge effects, animations and much more. If compared it is a much better movie to watch than The Hobbit.
(6) Pan’s Labyrinth
Pan’s Labyrinth is a Mexican Dark fantasy drama film that was released in 2006 with critical acclaim from all the critics like Rotten tomato etc.
The story takes place in Spain in the summer of 1944, five years after the Spanish Civil war during the early Francoist period. The narrative intertwines this real world with a mythical world centered on an overgrown, abandoned labyrinth and a mysterious faun creature, with whom the main character, Ofelia, interacts. Ofelia’s stepfather, the Falangist Captain Vidal, hunts the Spanish Maquis who fight against the Francoist regime in the region, while Ofelia’s pregnant mother Carmen grows increasingly ill. Ofelia meets several strange and magical creatures who become central to her story, leading her through the trials of the old labyrinth garden. The film employs make-up, animatronics and CGI effects to bring life to its creatures.
It is a really fantastical movie if you are searching for a movie in the fantasy genre. The characters are well developed and interesting to watch.
(7) Pirates of the Caribbean
Pirates of the Caribbean is a series of fantasy action films that contain a very famous character, Jack Sparrow. The series expresses the lives of pirates in a humorous but true way. There are 5 movies in the franchise till now, the latest (Dead Men tell no tales) bring released in 2017.
The fantasy world, as well as the huge action involved in the movie certainly, will remind you of the Hobbit. One thing you should keep in mind while watching this series is to watch it in order otherwise it might seem boring.

Warcraft is a 2016 American fantasy action film that is based on the famous video game of the same name. The world of orcs is being destroyed by the evil fel magic. It is a good movie to watch if all you like in action.

Stardust is a romantic adventure fantasy film based on the Novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman.
The film follows Tristan who belongs to a fictional world of Wall which is a town on the magical Fantasy Kingdom of Stormhold. Tristan enters the magical land of Wall to collect a fallen star to gift his crush. Victoria in return for her hand in marriage. Meanwhile, the star turns out to be a woman Yvaine who is hunted by witches the princes of Stormhold.
It is a magical story of Tristan and there is nothing better to watch in fantasy than this.
(10) Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
Save the best for the last. Percy Jackson and the lightning thief is an action fantasy adventure movie based on the novel of the same name by Rick Riordan. There are more than 10 novels on Percy Jackson. The adaptation that was made couldn’t have been any better than it was.
Percy Jackson finds out that he is the son of God Poseidon and has special abilities related to water. His friend Grover is a Satyr(Goat like creatures). Zeus’s lightning bolt has lost and Percy is being blamed for stealing it. Along with his friends, he goes on a quest to prove Zeus wrong and find his bolt. The movie is a perfect example of an action-adventure movie.
