Novak Djokovic defeated the African Anderson in three straight sets in the Wimbledon Final this Sunday. After a two hour five minute clash in the historic center court, Djokovic held the Wimbledon trophy in his hands for the fourth time making it his 13th Grand Slam victory.
It might have been hard for most of the fans out there because nobody would’ve believed if told that neither of Federer or Nadal would be competing in the Wimbledon final but, the worthy finalists made sure of it. Anderson defeated Federer in a class quarter-final. On the other hand, Djokovic gracefully moved past Nadal over a span of two days in the second semi-final.
Anderson entered the final after over 21 hours of Tennis with over 6 hours of it being against one of the finest Wimbledon semi-finals in history against Isner which ended 26-24 in the fifth set. So for Anderson, we might never get to know if it was fatigue or nerves, even though he hinted it was just fatigue. Djokovic, on the other hand, was patient, apart from the screaming during the game when he yelled “Shut the **** up” which was probably not one of his finest moments on the ground.
Djokovic was finally able to grab a place in the top 10, coming back a long way from number 21. With Nadal and Federer failing to shine and the young contenders failing to assert themselves Djokovic has done a commendable job. Anderson took everyone by surprise and moved up to fifth place as well.
There is no doubt in the fact that the players were not fresh enough for a Wimbledon final having faced tough opponents throughout the tournament, their bodies weren’t given enough time to recover from the previous matches here’s the Wimbledon final between Djokovic and Anderson
