The entire northern region of India saw a sudden drop in the temperature. This was due to the snowfall and rains in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This snowfall in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh came as a boon for the toxic-laden air of the national capital and the neighbouring areas.
The climatic conditions which led to the snowfall and the rains have now moved to the east. This will, however, leave a positive impact over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh. There has been a drop in low moisture winds and temperature. The experts are saying that it will provide respite to the people of these states. Air quality will improve a bit, but just for a day.
But now, the western disturbance had already passed and the hilly areas will not see snowfall very soon. Light rain showers are expected across the national capital and regions around it. The maximum temperature will most probably, drop by a degree. The morning temperature will drop by 2 degrees. So, expect chilly morning from now on.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir also saw the season’s first snowfall. Heavy snowfall was observed at Sonmarg, Gulmarg and Pahalgam. Snowfall in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh has led to a sudden drop in temperature. The minimum temperature of Gulmarg was -3.0 degrees Celcius while in Srinagar, it was 1.8 degrees Celcius.
“The western disturbance is passing and the region will now see cold, but dry north-westerly winds, with a bit higher speed, which will bring down the temperatures across northern plains. Snowfall is not expected in mountain regions of Himachal and parts of Uttarakhand,” India Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist M Mohapatra told IANS.
