This movie is totally subjective or you can call it one side view. So, there is no point in asking or looking for objectivity in the flick. Director Rajkumar Hirani has made a compelling and emotional film which proclaims clearly that it is somewhat a justification to the many transgressions that the actor (Sanjay Dutt) had in his life. Ranbir Kapoor has totally immersed in the character of Sanjay Dutt, and seeing him play this role at different time zones of Sanjay Dutt’s life is inexplicably amazing. The way Ranbir has played the 21-year-old who is trying to fake romance on-screen to the spoiled brat who is in the verge of ruins due to drug addiction to the actor whose decision has led him behind the bar is the emblem that there is nothing that Ranbir cannot do.

There is no doubt that Ranbir Kapoor is the star of the show due to the impeccable acting skills he has shown in the flick, but Vicky Kaushal has also reserved the space for huge praise due to his commendable performance as the Dutt’s ally and best friend. Sonam Kapoor and Dia Mirza have played their part with finesse in their small roles and so has Manisha Koirala as ‘Nargis’. Paresh Rawal is not resembling Sunil Dutt ( Sanjay Dutt’s father) but the way he has portrayed the role has done full justice to his part. Also, Anushka Sharma (with her strange hairdo of course) gave a winning performance as a biographer who is responsible to write the life story of Sanjay.

The only trouble that the film has is that it has shown the main character as a victim. But even after this manipulation, the director has displayed ‘Sanjay’ as self-destructive which has somehow swept the audience to get carried away by what he has made for on-screen display. The humorous scenes are also plenty. The standout among them is the one where ‘Sanju’ shows up late at night to his girlfriend’s home. The makers have made a movie which is going to make you empathetic with the character. It is for you to decide whether the actor was ‘ a real baddy’ or ‘the victim of circumstances’.
