Padma Shri

Rajkumari Devi-

Rajkumari Devi hails from a village called Anandpur in Muzaffarpur and was honored for her work in the field of agriculture. She has also been bestowed with the Kisan Shree award. She is truly an inspiration.

Bhagirathi Devi-

Bhagirathi Devi bagged the prestigious Padma Shri in the field of public affairs. She is a politician and currently a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and an active and vocal politician.

Harika Dronavalli-

Harika is only the second Indian woman to bag the title of men’s grandmaster title. India honored her by bestowing her with Padma Shri for her contributions in the field of sports and specifically chess.

Godawari Dutta-

She bagged the prestigious Padma Shri award for her contributions to the field of Madhubani Painting and for promoting it in India and abroad. She has also been bestowed with the title of “Shilp Guru” by President Pratibha Patil in 2006.

Narthaki Nataraj-

She is a fifty-four year old dancer from Tamil Nadu. She is also the first transgender to be honored with this one of the top civilian awards in India.

Rohini Godbole-

Rohini Godbole is a physicist and a genius. She received the prestigious Padma Shri for her contributions to science and nuclear energy. She is a professor at the Centre for High Energy Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Friederike Irina-

Ms. Irina became one of the rare foreigners to receive this one of the highest civilian honors of India. She was bestowed with this honor for her work as a social worker in animal welfare. She has taken in over 1,200 cows and is nursing them to health in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. She started her own cowshed known as ‘Surbhai Gauseva Niketan’.

Bombayla Devi Laishram-

She is an international archer of great repute and has represented the country in several international competitions including the Beijing Olympics.

Gita Mehta-

She is also a foreigner but was born in India and is the sister of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and daughter of former CM Biju Patnaik. She was chosen for the award for her work in literature but has declined to accept it stating “I must decline as there is a general election looming and the timing of the award might be misconstrued, causing embarrassment both to the Government and myself, which I would much regret.”

Madurai Chinna Pillai-

She is a legendary woman from a small village near Madurai. She has started a very successful banking system in the villages in Tamil Nadu and is trying to reduce poverty and debt grievances by empowering women. She bagged the award for her contributions to microfinance and social work.

Tao Porchon Lynch-

She is also one of the foreigners who earned the respect and prestige of Padma Shri. She is a yoga master and an award-winning author. She was bestowed with the honor for her work towards the promotion of yoga.

Kamala Pujhari-

She is a tribal agricultural activist and a member of the Odisha Planning Board. She rose to prestige by preserving various local varieties of paddy and grabbed the prestigious Padma Shri for her contributions towards agriculture.

Milena Salvini-

She is a trained classical dancer of Kathakali, Bharatanatyam, and Mohiniyattom from the reputed Kerala Kalamandalam. Her contributions to the field of dance are legendary.

Prashanti Singh-

She serves as a shooting guard for the Indian national women’s basketball team. She had also bagged the Arjuna Award in 2017.

Sharada Srinivasan-

Sharada Srinivasan is an archaeologist specializing in the scientific study of art, archaeology, archaeometallurgy, and culture. This is a phenomenal lady who holds her own in the academic work and was thus honored with the prestigious Padma Shri.

Saalumarada Thimakka-

This inspiration of a woman has planted more than 380 banyan trees along a four-kilometer stretch of highway between Hulikal and Kudur. She regularly tends to these plants and in the process has bagged the Padma Shri for her contributions to the social work aimed towards the environment.

Jamuna Tudu-

Jamuna Tudu is known as Lady Tarzan and has been honored with the Padma Shri for her work in preserving the environment. The NITI Aayog had selected her for the Women Transforming India Award 2017.

Muktaben Pankajkumar Dagli

She is a phenomenal woman hailing from Gujrat. She was bestowed with the prestigious award for her immense and selfless social work.

Draupadi Ghimiray

She bagged the prestigious Padma Shri for her phenomenal job as a social worker. She hails from Sikkim and is truly an inspiration

Padma Bhushan

Bachendri Pal-

The first Indian woman to conquer Mt. Everest was honored with the prestigious Padma Bhushan for her contributions towards sports and especially mountain climbing. She has already received the Padma Shri thirty five years ago.

 

Padma Vibhushan

Teejan Bai-

She is a legend and a leading performing artist when it comes to the contemporary exponent of Pandavani. She has been honored with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan for contributions to folk arts and vocals.
