Indian movies have shown that they have the capacity to attract a global audience. This statement is true because some of the Hindi movies have reached the Oscars nominations. Bollywood does not produce the ‘great work’ every time but still has given the films which have been renowned in the whole world. 1) Barfi (2012)

Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi’ was set in the year 1970s in Darjeeling. The movie is about a cheerful young boy named ‘Barfi’, portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor. The movie showed his relationship with two women, Jhilmil and Shruti, played by Illeana D’Cruz and Priyanka Chopra. Jhilmil is an autistic child in the movie. The story of the film was a little bit like a love triangle but not conventional. The film went on to win many awards in India and was India’s entry for Oscars.

2) Taare Zameen Par (2008)

The movie was directed by Aamir Khan and had Darsheel Safari in the main role (Ishaan). The flick was a tiny 8-year-old boy who was very artistic but lacked in academic performances n school. He had difficulty to learn and understand words and was suffering from a condition known as dyslexia which his parents did not understand. Tired and angry, Ishaan’s father sends him to boarding school where he becomes depressed and sad. Aamir Khan notices his situation when he gets appointed in the same school as an art teacher. He meets his parents and criticizes his father for the rude behavior and harsh decision of sending such a little boy away from school. Aamir played Ishaan’s mentor and in the end, the kid overcomes his difficulties to learn and his grades improve.

3) Rudaali (1993)

Rudaali movie is based on the cultural practice which was prevalent in Rajasthan 40-50 years back. In this cultural practice, ladies known as ‘Rudaali’ were called to shed tears when someone from rich family dies. The professional ladies who show fake mourn were known as ‘Rudaalis’. The film was directed by Kalpana Lajm and had Dimple Kapadia in the main role. Another cast in the movie, Raj Babbar, Rakhee and Amjad Khan were in pivotal roles. The movie revolved around ‘Sanichari’, portrayed by Dimple Kapadia whose life is nothing but a series of misfortunes.

4) Bandit Queen (1995)

This movie was based on the life of ‘Phoolan Devi’ and was directed by Shekhar Kapoor. This Indian biographical drama was not easy to watch as it revealed atrocities and crimes against this woman ‘Phoolan’ in such reality that it became painful to watch. The main character was played by Seema Biswas and she did complete justice to the role. The real ‘Phoolan Devi’ charged case against the director was bringing her personal life to the public but later retracted her case. She received the huge amount from the authorities to take her case back and let thereby allow the release of the flick.
