Robot 2.0; a film that has not yet been released but has already surpassed every benchmark in Bollywood. Initially scheduled to release October 18 last year, the movie has been delayed twice due to the huge amount of CGI work that needs to be incorporated. India’s most expensive movie with a budget of Rs.540 crore is now scheduled to release on 29th November this year. The movie is the sequel to Robot starring Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Not only is Robot 2.0 India’s most expensive movie but also has one of the most amazing star casts. India’s most expensive movie stars superstar Rajnikanth in the double role of scientist Vasigaran and the humanoid robot Chitti dealing with a problem that is “beyond science” and in the role of the antihero, we have our favourite Akshay Kumar. However, the director of the movie Shankar and its CGI crew are being hailed as the actual stars of the movie.
The trailer released confirms as much. We see Akshay Kumar in his “crow” look, the same famous look that was leaked a few years ago. We see Rajnikanth in the robot avatar as well but the show stealer is the special effects. In a storyline where people’s mobile phones become the target of Akshay Kumar’s character- the evil scientist Richard, the team has managed to put up an impressive amount of work that explains the continued delay of the movie.
A sci-fi movie dealing with environmental issues, starring two of the greatest actors, being released in multiple languages and an impressive amount of CGI explains why India’s most expensive movie surpasses every benchmark in Bollywood and has fans comparing it to the likes of Hollywood successes such as Deadpool and X-Men. It is quite a possibility that Robot 2.0 will mark the start of a new era in Bollywood.
