Is it safe for women to travel in the night in India? Hell yes, is most of us wish to say but unfortunately, our society refuses to make women feel safe at any given point for the day. Kolkata is considered as one of the safest Metropolitan cities for women in India.

But, here’s the latest incident that proves this point yet again…It so happened that Former Miss India Universe (2010) Ushoshi Sengupta along with her colleague took an Uber from JW Marriott Kolkata around 11:40 p.m., last night.

After finishing her work, since she works with the Media and Entertainment industry working late hours is a necessary job profile. They have taken a left turn from the Exide crossing towards Elgin while few boys in a bike (without a helmet) came and hit the Uber. To which they stopped the bike and started yelling at the driver.

They dragged the driver and started beating him up. This is when she stepped out and started shouting taking the video of the incident .she ran across the street Maidan police station, she saw an officer standing and she requested to come with her, he told her that this is not under the jurisdiction of Bhawanipori police station. She begged them to come along with her or else they will kill the driver. The police officer came and warned the boys for creating the nuisance. The boys pushed the police officer and ran away.

Then she requested the Uber driver to drop them home and decided to go to the police station tomorrow morning.

But to their utter surprise the boys followed them till her colleague’s house and right when she was about to drop her, 6 of the boys in 3 bikes came and stopped her car, threw stones, and broke the car. Dragged her out and try to break her phone to delete the video. Her colleague jumped out of the fear and she was completely shaken. Then she came out and started shouting by now the locals had come out.

Then finally she was able to rescue from those attackers. And this incident happened in the next lane of her locality.

The cops came and told her to do FIR at Charu Market police station. She went there but they refused her complain and told her, will be taken by the Bhawanipore police station.

At that point, she gave up and started shouting. And even no female police officer was not present there.

After raising lots of questions they took her complaint but they refuse to take the Uber drivers to complain and stated that 2 FIR’s can’t be taken for the same complain.

After this incident Former Miss India Universe (2010) Ushoshi Sengupta felt so heartbroken and tweeted the whole incident in her twitter account with an attached video and told that:

If you are getting mobbed, violated, molested or even killed please be assure about the jurisdiction of the police station before running to them. Because even if it is 100 meters away from your spot and nit under the jurisdiction chances are very rare they will come and help.

If the mob is beating the driver if you stepped out and raised voice you will be attacked. To help others and stand up is a scary thing to do because the police who was 100 meter away refused to help.

Lastly Former Miss India Universe (2010) Ushoshi Sengupta said, “This is not the Kolkata she came to, not the Kolkata she left flourishing career outside to come back and live. I represented Kolkata and won the title of Miss India I represented this city, I represented this country I stand up for every girl every citizen who is scared to live in this situation”.
