Canon launches entry-level DSLR EOS 3000D and EOS 1500D in India

Canon recently announced two new entry-level DSLRs in India: the 18-megapixel Canon EOS 3000D and the 24-megapixel Canon EOS 1500D. Both cameras have the DIGIC 4+ image processor, which backs Canon’s Scene Intelligent Auto mode and lets you do simple point and shoot photography. The APS-C size CMOS sensor on both cameras is about 19 times larger than the 1/3.2 inch standard sensor typically found in a smartphone. Both cameras are well equipped to record Full HD videos at up to 30fps.

Built for casual photographers, the cameras are equipped with Canon’s Creative Filters and come with an option of Wi-Fi that can be used with Canon Camera Connect app for sharing images with a smartphone and other supported devices. The creative filters offer various effects including soft focus, toy camera, fish-eye, miniature, and an “artsy grainy” black-and-white. On the other hand, the app is compatible with Android and iOS devices and supports the ability to adjust camera settings and even shoot images remotely.

Canon EOS 1500D: Specifications and Features

The Canon EOS 1500D comes with the same 24-megapixel sensor similar to Canon’s other APS-c format cameras. But it is packed with with slightly more features than the Canon EOS 3000D, which include a metal lens mount,  pop-up flash, built-in speaker and dioptre adjustment for the optical viewfinder. This model even comes with NFC connectivity. There are 11 custom functions, and users have the ability to automatically embed copyright information in the image files taken from this camera. Playback functions include image rating(0-5 stars), index display, 1.5x to 10x magnification, jump display and slideshow playback with five transition effects and the option of background music. Both the cameras are expected to be sold with EF-S 18-55mm IS II kit lens. Canon EOS 1500D is said to launch in the US for $550 (Rs.35,700 approx.).

 

Canon EOS 3000D: Specifications and Features

The Canon EOS 3000D is aimed more for novice users. It features an 18-megapixel sensor with a 2.7-inch LCD. It comes with a plastic lens mount and requires its flash to be manually raised. This model does not come with NFC and only offer Wi-Fi connectivity. Compared to the EOS 1500D which has a separate on/off switch, the Canon EOS 3000D has the on/off switch integrated into the mode dial. Playback options on this camera are the same, but only 10 custom functions are available.
