Not so long after Christiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus in Serie A, Real have been struggling with their form and finding it hard to adapt to the change in management as Zinedine Zidane left and Spain’s Ex-Manager Julen Lopetegui was hired. Julen had a flawless record at Spain but left under controversial circumstances just hours before Spain’s side landed in Russia for the FIFA World Cup 2018. Real Madrid was not the only team facing problems as even Barcelona were playing without their Talisman, the little genius Lionel Messi who was forced out of the El Clasico because of an arm injury for which he had to leave the ground for 21 days.
In what was yet another historical clash between the two greatest sides of club football, Barcelona thrashed Real Madrid 5-1 in their first El Clasico without Christiano Ronaldo. Luis Suarez scored a brilliant Hattrick. The new winger from Liverpool, Philippe Coutinho opened fire against Real Madrid when he scored in the eleventh minute. Things went real bad, real quick for Julen and his side when Suarez scored from a penalty in the 30th minute. Real Madrid put one back just after halftime when Viera scored a stunner in the 50th minute but it was far from being enough, it being the only goal that the Ronaldo-less Real Madrid side was able to score in the ninety minutes of football.
Suarez continued scoring against Real scoring two fine goals in the 75th and 83rd minute completing his phenomenal hattrick. In the 87th minute The Midfielder from Bayern, Vidal went for glory and scored the fifth goal burying Real in the El Clasico.
There were many consequences of this defeat that would haunt Julen Lopetegui throughout his life as he got sacked a few days after the El Clasico. Ronaldo lovers took twitter by storm and the fans were absolutely furious.
As of now, Barcelona is on top of the La Liga table with 21 points in mere 10 matches. Real, on the other hand, are at a mere 14 points holding 9th position in the league. With almost one-third of the season passed, this is an alarming situation for the glorious Real Madrid side which were Champions of the UEFA Champions League three times consecutively.
